“It allows dads to drop that macho stuff and just say, ‘hey, I love my children and I want to show them that I love them. I don’t have to be afraid or embarrassed.’  Dads instinctively want to nurture their kids. But, for some reason, in society it’s frowned upon. I try to get dads to realize its totally fine to let your kids know that you love them, to let them be secure in your love for them.”

Julian, Parent Educator

Parents As Teachers

Parents as Teachers partners with parents to embrace their role as their child’s first and most influential teacher. The result is stronger communities, thriving families and children who are healthy, safe, and learning.

Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a home-visitation program that can start prenatally and continues to serve families with children up to kindergarten age. The PAT model employs a unique combination of research, education and empowerment. During in-home visits, our highly trained Parent Educators encourage parents and caregivers and equip them through an evidence-based curriculum with information and tools that are relevant, applicable and proven to work. In addition to personal visits, the components of PAT provide group connections and a network of resources.

We nurture positive growth and development for every child and every family. We partner with families to:

  • Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve positive parenting practices

  • Provide early detection of developmental delays and connection to services

  • Prevent child abuse and neglect

  • Increase children’s school readiness and success

  • Improve parent, child, and family health and well being

  • Improve family economic well-being
